I qualified from University College London in 1985 with a BSc Hons in Speech Sciences. In 1985 I gained an RSA Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and spent 6 months teaching in an International House School and a Business School in Italy.  On return to the U.K. my first SLT posts were with Bath Health Authority and Grampian Health Authority in the Highlands of Scotland.

On returning to my Pembrokeshire roots in 1989, I started work as a SLT in the NHS finishing in 2014. I initially worked with a mixed paediatric and adult caseload before specialising in adult disorders. I worked for over 16 years providing a service to inpatients in Withybush Hospital where I was responsible for setting up and developing the SLT service to patients with swallowing difficulties.

I developed the Speach and Language Therapy service in the Community as part of the multi disciplinary team covering a varied caseload of severe and complex patients in their own homes, in Nursing Homes, Day Hospitals and Outpatient Clinics.  I worked in a managerial capacity and as a Highly Specialist Therapist in the field of adult neurology.
